With or without snow there’s not much that’s as heart warming as mulled wine in the wintertime.

The rich aroma of winter spices is so welcoming, it is no wonder it is such a welcomed delight.

Whether you are treating your guests on a cold winters night or giving a DIY mulled wine kit as a hostess gift, you will not only be a hit but will warm their hearts.
Traditional Mulled Wine

Glühwein (German and Austrian style mulled wine)."Glühwein," literally means "glowing wine," and no German Christmas market is complete without "Glühwein."    This hot, spiced mulled wine warms from the inside out as shoppers stroll through charming villages.

Glogg (Scandinavian-style mulled wine) is the high octane version of mulled wine.  In Sweden this is a beverage consumed almost exclusively during the Christmas season.

Whatever version you choose, the bouquet of winter spices from the gently simmering wine makes for a warm, aromatic welcome to all.

IMPORTANT TIPS~ Over the years I have discovered the following tips that I hope help you too.

First: These recipes should be adjusted with the sweetener & spices to your taste.

Second:  Use a non-reactive sauce pan

Third: Don’t let the wine boil, as it will result in an un-welcomed oxidized taste.

Fourth:  Mulled wine mellows with a rest. If you have time, consider making it a couple of hours ahead to let it stand, off heat, with the seasonings. Reheat gently and add any extra alcohol five minutes before serving.

Fifth:  Serve in heated glass or mug.  Simply pour hot water in glass, empty out water, add wine and serve.

Sixth:  Try adding a splash of Brandy when serving.

Seventh: I like to add fresh ginger to my mulled wine.

Lastly: Have fun, drink responsibly and be warm♥

Non-Alcoholic Version--- Substitute cider and/or juices such as cranberry in place of alcohol.

Ready Set, GARNISH and Serve

Serving Suggestions:  Garnish with Cranberries, orange slices, cinnamon sticks and serve in a heated glass.

DIY Glühwein Mulled Wine Christmas Gifts,
make wonderful hostess or Christmas gifts.  They are so easy to make that I keep a couple extra made up in case I need a last minute unexpected gift. I also, keep both the original recipe and the non-alcoholic recipe on hand to make it easy to quickly put the basket, box or gift together.

Make sachets or fill small containers with measured out spices.  I suggest buying the spices in bulk when making several gifts.

Whether you are using a basket, box, bag, Christmas stocking or decorating the bottle your gift will be a warm welcome to any recipient.
