How to Create a Nontraditional Coastal Bedroom.

Client Challenge: How do I incorporate Girly ~ Girl with Coastal Decor that provides a wow!

Challenge #1: Client'How do I incorporate girly~girl and coastal decor for a tween going into teen’s bedroom?
Her favorite color is pink, and she is a very girly~girl but loves the ocean, kayaking and is learning to surf.'

Challenge #2: 'I would like it to be a room she can grow into, so I do not have to change the decor for a few years.’

I love a challenge!

I am all about unique designs and decorating that brings out the authentic spirit of each individuals personality and show cases their style.

Solutions

The colors are fun and the style is unique.  By combining floral with painted paddles to create a headboard, add a coastal pillow, a pink night stand (shown below)and you have a stunning room.  This room would also be beautiful as a guest room in your coastal cottage. The color palette on the bottom left is from Design Seeds.

These are very girly~girl designs which the young lady can grow with.

These pieces are all available in various colors and finishes.  Whether you are designing your private getaway master bedroom, your children's rooms ~ infant to teen or creating a stunning & welcoming guest room, have fun ~ be creative!

Watch for the next blog as I assist my client with solutions for another nontraditional bedroom for her other daughter who loves sailing and all things nautical.

Central California Long Weekend Trip

Morro Bay to San Simeon California

There is so much beauty and wonder to experience in a short 30 mile stretch along the Pacific Coast.  It lies about 1/2 way between San Francisco and Los Angeles, CA.

I drove to Morro Bay and spent the night, went out on a harbor cruise and then hit the road.

Harbor Cruise Time

Sorry for the blur, but I had to share this little tiff I captured.
King of the dock!  Standing tall and proud.

An up close photo of this proud boy!  I love his mohawk!

The back side of the Fish Company while cruising by.  It was an overcast day in Morro Bay.  However that did not take away from the beauty.

Day Three -- Road Trip

Heading north on Cabrillo CA-Hwy 1 along the Pacific Coast.  As we are traveling along a very scenic drive of only 25 miles off to the right I spotted Zebras running in a pasture.  I really thought I was seeing things.  I pulled over and took in the wonder of the Pacific Ocean on one side and Zebras on the side side of the rode.

Soon I realized that these Zebras were part of the Hearst Ranch.

Hearst Castle is an amazing place and well worth the trip to tour the grounds and buildings.

Next we traveled a short distance north on CA-Hwy to Piedras Blancas aka
Elephant Seal Beach~Rookery
The Rookery is open year round with no fee to access and take watch these marine mammals.

What an amazing creature of the ocean.  I spent so much time taking in the wonder of these magnificent Seals.  As I watched in awe, I was snapping picture after picture.  It was difficult to choose only a few shots to share.

Stand Off

The sounds they make are incredible.

I was fortunate to catch this cute Baby Seal in action.  He is covering himself in sand to stay cool.  What an adorable baby, those eyes!
Watching this sweet baby was by far my favorite experience of the entire trip.

Then a quick 5 minute stint up the road to Piedras Blancas Light House.  Unfortunately the lighthouse was closed for visitors while I was there.

I hope you enjoyed my excursion to Morro Bay, Hearst Castle, Elephant Seal Beach and Piedras Light House.  For more information on the magnificent Elephant Seals please check out Friends of Elephant Seals:

Color Me Beach Beige
Found on Ruffleblog.com

Beige is timeless and traditional, it brings the warmth of the sand into your home.  Beige works beautifully in any room from foyers, living rooms to bedrooms.

When choosing a shade of beige for your interior first ask yourself what other colors you will be using in your room or what hue you are attracted to.

Beige has various undertones & hues of red, yellow, pink and gray. Pairing your accent colors with the undertone will pull your room together and allow the colors to compliment and harmonize.

Last but not least of my DIY series is crafting with Sea Glass!  I have a love for sea glass and become so lost in time while looking for it that I find myself walking miles along the shore.
My family is planning a trip to Fort Braggs, CA next month. Fort Braggs is also known as 'Glass Beach'.  The sea glass along Fort Braggs beach is created from trash dumped over the edge of a cliff on the oceans edge years ago.
Mother nature works her magic, turning our trash into treasure.

Projects Gluing Sea Glass
Through my research on crafting with sea glass I found that most crafters use an adhesive called 'E6000' when gluing their sea glass to various mediums; wood, glass, etc... It is supposed to allow the natural beauty of the glass to shine through without causing it to loose its lustrous.

Combining your seashell treasures with sea glass creates these beautiful frames to display those seaside photos.

There are so many beautiful DIY projects using sea glass that it was difficult to choose a few to share with you.  I hope you have enjoyed this DIY blog series.
