Fall is a wonderful time of year!

We don our sweaters and break out the comfy throws.  Memories are made around Bon Fires aglow on the beach.  Our family and friends all circled around the fire, roasting marshmallows, making s'mores and drinking hot cider. The aroma of Pumpkin Spice fills the air!

Rugs and pillows add color instantly!

Creating a crisp neutral white room makes it easy to change with the seasons.
Simply change the color of the pillows, like adding the deep purple for fall/winter and you change the entire style in a few minutes.

Decorating Tips, Tricks and Solutions
to create stunning living space for your condo or cottage!
Stylish Condo | Cottage Decorating
I have had a few questions from clients who have purchased a summer cottage, are down sizing for their retirement and/or moving into a coastal condo that has much less space then they are use to having.  I am here to assist and inspire you with small space solutions and tips.

Small Spaces does not mean you cannot have Big Design!

This beach side condo has several fun patterns, textures while offering functionality.
First note the stripes make your eyes go up as does the white ceiling and the tall hutch.
The various patterns are used to define each room.

TIP:  Go Vertical: Use that valuable space up to the ceiling.
The built in shelf on this wall draws the eye up providing the illusion of a larger space.

 Tip: Choose Multi Functional!
Look for multi functional items, coffee/end table, beds and/or benches with storage.

Using pieces that are multi functional is a huge asset to creating style with function.
The trunk works as a coffee table and storage for blankets or books. The wall sconces free up table space for your treasures, while providing light for your reading pleasure. Sectional sofas do not have to be huge, choose an upholstered version.

Maximize every small space in your home with expert
decorating ideas and storage solutions.

Tips: mirrors reflect light, which makes the tiny space look larger.
This Beach Cottage is so much fun!  The white on white tricks the eye into enlarging the space.  The style pops with colors of coral and turquoise.

.
Tiny spaces don’t have to sacrifice comfort or cool.
Tip:  Scale and proportion are the two key ingredients to pulling off a small space.
Stick to compact furniture to keep the room balanced.

This coastal cottage found in Coastal Living is so cute.  It offers a lot of windows to open up the room, the low backed chairs are proportionate to the room size.  The long narrow table and the fun blue and red door add so much to the coastal charm.

TIP:  Extend your living area to the outside

Small Space – Big Design:
Two Part ~ Blog Series
***
Part I:
Tips For Turning Your Small Balcony
 or Patio into your Oasis.

This balcony has it all; an amazing view, functionality, seating, privacy, greenery and color.

Tip #1:  Before starting your adventure in creating your beautiful oasis you should consider making some essential choices.  Small spaces require clarity in your priorities.  Do you want a place to dine?Or a place to sit relax and take in the view?  Small spaces seldom allow for both!

Example - the table below may be a tight squeeze but well worth giving up the space if outdoor dining is your priority.
I suggest adding an area rug to pull the room together and add a touch of color.  Another option is painting the concrete or adding a wood floor.
This cozy seating area is inviting and functional. It is pulled together with a bright area rug, gives the outdoor feeling with plants that camouflage the walls.

Privacy is important when you live in a condo or an apartment.
This setting reminds me of the Tropics.

This is such a fun balcony with the planters, trellis, area rug and the pops of red.

The old fashion bottom rail and wooden pickets creates a private area to sit and have your coffee. the striped rug and colored chairs and pillows make it homey.

Small Spaces Made Functional and Inviting
There is a huge difference between these two rooms, adding the rug adds texture, color and creates a room.  If you add a mirror at the end wall it will create more depth.

I adore this bright cheery balcony with all the textures and colors.  I would love to drink my morning coffee on this balcony.  Source

This little balcony is so cute with the wood slat flooring tiles. The rug looks like a beach towel, creating a carefree feeling that speaks of the beach!

This photo offers so many tips for creating privacy, comfort and style.  the pillows hung on a rod above the storage trunk/bench is a clever way to have both functionality and comfort.  The added bench seat cushion in a navy pattern against the green adds texture and style.  Hanging a blind adds both privacy and shade on a hot summer day.

Tip #2:  Always measure your space before you purchase furniture for your small space.  You can play with the layout using boxes or pieces of indoor furniture you already have.

Tip #3: Garden Stools are the newest and fun way to add color and functionality to large or small spaces.  Use them as side tables or seating.

Tip #4:  Leave the middle open, this will create an illusion of a larger space.  You can accomplish this trick by adding seating around the parameter.

Tip #5:  How to paint or stain your concrete floor by Sherwin-Williams and Behr. To easily create an outdoor room, paint or stain away the gray concrete and add an outdoor rug.
