Happy Cinco de Mayo!

Ideas for your Cinco de Mayo Fiesta

Party City

When I think of celebrating Cinco de Mayo, I envision tissue paper decorations made with bright colors such as green, red, hot pink, orange and bright yellow.  A table adorned with a sombrero center piece, a grouping of colorful candles lighting up the night.  Streamers, tissue paper flowers and streamers bringing a medley of color to the setting. A margarita bar with colorful bar & stem ware.  A buffet that includes an assortment of Mexican foods & desserts such as; make your own tacos & salsa bar.

Friends and family gathered around, Mariachi performers or salsa music playing, laughter and celebration.  Cameras flashing pictures to forever save the memory of a joyous occasion.

How to make Pom-Poms and Luminaries; by Martha Stewart

Dahlia-like pom-poms appear to float in the air, imparting a cheerful radiance to a rehearsal dinner, bridal shower, or casual reception. Echoing the vibrant hanging puffs, pom-pom napkin rings in citrus shades adorn each place setting.

Fact: Cinco de Mayo is a festive Mexican celebration that has become increasingly popular in the United States. Many believe it to be Mexico's Independence Day, May 5th. It actually represents Mexico's victory over France at the battle of Puebla in 1862.

60-30-10
Color Decorating Tip

Regardless if you are decorating your seaside cottage, country home, villa or lake side get away these tips will make decorating your oasis a breeze. You will find this color scheme is aesthetically pleasing to the human eye, both in styling your home or your outfit.  The 60 percent hue, fuses the coloration. The 30 percent provides visual interest and the 10 percent, provides the finishing touch.

60% of your room should be the dominant color, which is the hue.  Use it on your walls to unify the coloration.

30% of a secondary color will be your upholstery, providing a visual interest.

10% of the décor will be your accent color.  Use those special, unique pieces to add the finishing touch.  Pillows, pictures & wall decor, and/or area rugs are all items that work well to add an accent color.  Vivid color works wonders as an accent color.

There are 3 color dimensions which consist of a hues; tint, shade and tone.
A tint is made by adding white to a hue. Use the tints of the given color for dominant colors.
A tone is made by adding gray. Tones will be your secondary colors.
A shade is made by adding black. Accent colors should be vivid, almost pure color.

Analogous Color Scheme
Analogous colors are next to each other on the color wheel, such as yellow and green, blue and violet, or red and orange. Analogous color schemes generally work best in causal rooms.  These color schemes are restful and muted in terms of color and best used in in family rooms, sitting rooms, dens and bedrooms — rooms where you want to retreat and relax.

Complementary Color Scheme
Complementary colors are across from each other on the color wheel, such as blue and yellow, red and green, or purple and orange. Rooms decorated with a complementary color scheme tend to provide a clear separation of colors and often are more formal. Complementary color schemes are best used in your formal areas of the home — for example, the living room or dining room.

If you are like me you like to change your color scheme. After all, the color scheme in our homes immediately reveals if it is outdated.  Color is fun and gives a room an updated look.  I suggest choosing a paint and upholstery that you will be happy with for an extended period of time.  To update or change to the color you can replace only the accent pieces, pillows and/or area rug.

Using the complementary color scheme to the left creates a room that is casual and relaxing!

The room below is styled using the analogous color scheme.  Giving the room a more formal appearance.
