With or without snow there’s not much that’s as heart warming as mulled wine in the wintertime.

The rich aroma of winter spices is so welcoming, it is no wonder it is such a welcomed delight.

Whether you are treating your guests on a cold winters night or giving a DIY mulled wine kit as a hostess gift, you will not only be a hit but will warm their hearts.
Traditional Mulled Wine

Glühwein (German and Austrian style mulled wine)."Glühwein," literally means "glowing wine," and no German Christmas market is complete without "Glühwein."    This hot, spiced mulled wine warms from the inside out as shoppers stroll through charming villages.

Glogg (Scandinavian-style mulled wine) is the high octane version of mulled wine.  In Sweden this is a beverage consumed almost exclusively during the Christmas season.

Whatever version you choose, the bouquet of winter spices from the gently simmering wine makes for a warm, aromatic welcome to all.

Recipe's are EASY~~Read the recipes by clicking the links below

There are numerous Gluhwein Mulled Wine Recipe on the web.  This recipe sounds wonderful with the addition of vanilla bean and brandy. Wishful Chef

The weather outside is frightful, but the mulled wine is delightful!

Reminder ---- Glogg is High Octane

Old Fashion Glogg Recipe: I was excited to find this traditional recipe submitted to All Recipes by Judy. She wrote: 'My Grandfather brought this recipe over from Sweden in 1921. We still use it today. GodJul.'

IMPORTANT TIPS~ Over the years I have discovered the following tips that I hope help you too.

First: These recipes should be adjusted with the sweetener & spices to your taste.

Second:  Use a non-reactive sauce pan

Third: Don’t let the wine boil, as it will result in an un-welcomed oxidized taste.

Fourth:  Mulled wine mellows with a rest. If you have time, consider making it a couple of hours ahead to let it stand, off heat, with the seasonings. Reheat gently and add any extra alcohol five minutes before serving.

Fifth:  Serve in heated glass or mug.  Simply pour hot water in glass, empty out water, add wine and serve.

Sixth:  Try adding a splash of Brandy when serving.

Seventh: I like to add fresh ginger to my mulled wine.

Lastly: Have fun, drink responsibly and be warm♥

Non-Alcoholic Version--- Substitute cider and/or juices such as cranberry in place of alcohol.

Ready Set, GARNISH and Serve

Serving Suggestions:  Garnish with Cranberries, orange slices, cinnamon sticks and serve in a heated glass.

Why Just Give A Bottle of Wine when you can Kick it up A Notch!
DIY Glühwein Mulled Wine Christmas Gifts,
make wonderful hostess or Christmas gifts.  They are so easy to make that I keep a couple extra made up in case I need a last minute unexpected gift. I also, keep both the original recipe and the non-alcoholic recipe on hand to make it easy to quickly put the basket, box or gift together.

Make sachets or fill small containers with measured out spices.  I suggest buying the spices in bulk when making several gifts.

Whether you are using a basket, box, bag, Christmas stocking or decorating the bottle your gift will be a warm welcome to any recipient.

Create a unique festive look using your

unique style!

It is simple!  Create bands by layering your favorite colors rather then using the traditional method of mixing colors together.

Layering Colors Creates a Prismatic Christmas Display.

Still haven’t narrowed down your color choices?

Why not use a layered color theme! Aside from providing a beachy, vibrant, festive Caribbean ambiance, you can use all your favorite colors, making it uniquely your style.

This scheme allows you to combine the different ornaments you’ve collected from Christmas seasons past or pull in the colors from your room decor.

There is no right way to choose colors.  Be creative, choose your favorite colors or bring the hues into your room decor to your tree.  If you are having a hard time deciding use the color wheel (see below).

Fun ~ Festive ~ Cheerful ~ Unique

Creative ~ Artistic
An array of colors with variegated sizes brings an extra touch of unique beauty.

Kelly Lieberman on Flickr
This tree is gorgeous with the layers in variegated shades.   Starting at the bottom with the the blue ~ green band, followed by the
dark & light pink then the yellow and gold to top off the tree.

Creating a tree skirt from various colors of ribbons puts the finishing touch on this tree.
Sometimes it is those little details that brings it all together.
Who else wraps their gifts in paper that coordinates with your theme?

It is easy and cost effective to purchase extra ornaments to distribute the colors & theme throughout the room.  Lay them on table tops, mantels or a display in a beautiful bowl .  The ornaments will be beautiful alone or if you like festive and shiny take it to the next level with ribbon, or greenery and/or battery operated lights to make a magical display.

This fun combination of colors was pulled from the painting. Did your eye follow out to the yellow & colored pillows on the patio that match this gorgeous yellow room with a view?  Doing this elongates the room, creating a sense that the room is larger then it actually is.

The owners style is clearly shown in their unique colors they chose & the airy display.

This glorious color scheme is much like the table display above.
Full of festivity and holiday spirit!

These lighted trees would be gorgeous added to a mantel or table display.
Adding different heights and textures in your display
adds elements of character. Setting them on mirrors or placing mirrors behind them will create a reflection of light.

Coastal homes often use an interior design that creates the
feel of an airy ocean breeze.

This beach homes Christmas decor and trees are simple and understated.  However, the room comes to life in a joyful, whimsical/beachy way.  The grouping of the colorful trees and the colorful light weight fabric pulls it together from the anchored base to the top.

Creating Family Fun
Let each family member choose their color of ornaments.  They can then hang their ornaments, wrap their packages in that color of paper and tie it with a bow that coincides with the recipients chosen color.
Fun, Creative & Festive!
No name tags needed.

Start with your favorite color or room colors.  If you need some inspiration, you can use the color wheels and prism to help kick start your creativity.

I hope you are enjoying my Un-traditional Christmas Tree/Home
decorating blog series as much as I am having fun putting them together.
